Happy New Year!!
Is everyone making their resolutions? Me? I'm a firm believer in making ones I know I won't break. For instance, one year, I resolved to try a shot of tequila. I'd never done one, and it sounded like something everyone should try at least once. A friend's dad showed me the "cool" way of holding the shot glass, the lemon and the salt all in one hand, so you can toss it back in a fluid motion. I'm going to confess, that one shot was probably all I'll ever do (margaritas are much better than shots LOL), but hey, I accomplished my New Year goal!
I took two weeks off from writing over the holidays...something I rarely, if ever, do. Okay, so I'll confess, the longer I was away from the computer, the more I found myself coming up with new ideas. I firmly wouldn't allow myself to open my word processor, so I'd jot them down in a notebook, which is now filled with ideas and bits of dialogue. I'm chomping at the bit to get back to the writing tomorrow. Which leads me to this year's resolution...
I'd love to say I plan weekly dates with my dh. And if you consider our Saturday shopping trips together (which we do), I'd say we're good to go. But hey, it's New Year's...I'm going for something a bit more difficult. How about, a big fancy, all out date with him? We have a gift certificate for a very nice Italian restaurant. So, to lead off my ‘07, we'll get all gussied up and go out WITH NO KIDS! Yep, thinking that's doable. LOL Okay, and I'll add to that. After the holiday writing break, I'm inclined to think that the occasional writing day off might be good for me, so I'm resolving to cut myself some slack. This year, I'll take a day off now and again to just hang and have fun!
There you are, my resolutions are taking time to smell the roses and a date. Not too bad. Hope you all have figured out what you plan to resolve for ‘07, and that it's an amazing, wonderful year for everyone!

Susan,
ReplyDeleteLOL Yes, that's a great resolution!
May your year be filled with matched and folded socks!

A great resolution Holly - you do deserve time off, and an Italian Restaurant sounds like a fab place to spend it.
ReplyDeleteMy resolution is to start and finish my first FULL manuscript aimed for the new Harlequin Romance line.
Sue :-)
P.S. Thanks for getting my New Year off to a great start! :-D
Sue, That's a good one! Make sure you visit and keep me posted on how it's going. I often find that putting goals in writing makes them easier to keep. I'll have to let you know how our dinner goes!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats again on winning the bag! I'll mail it off this week!

Holly I am trying to play it safer this year. I am a little hard on myself, by not being to keep them. I am going to work on eating healthier,I have been working on it but I am really going to hit it hard this year. I have been watching all the MSG and boy it seems like everything that is processed has it. I also and going to help my mother stay strong while she goes through all the breast cancer treatments. This is going to be a trying year but we are going to stay stong.
ReplyDeleteI think you do need to take time off from writing, it will give you more ideas with the time off. And you need to spend time out on the town sometimes without the kids. Mine are 20 and 21 and they still want to go everywhere we go. Sometimes my husband and me just want to spend some alone time.
Brenda,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your mom. It's a horrible disease. Wishing her, and you, all the best. And good luck on the healthy eating!! That's a good goal because rather than restricting yourself, you're simply looking at what you eat in a different way!
Hope you find some alone time with your dh!! We count anytime we're together without kids as a "date." That means Saturday morning shopping counts...we're such geeks! LOL

I'm a firm believer in feeding your creativity by doing creative things other than writing. The reason is that relaxation frees us up. I heard a scientific explanation saying that relaxing your brain (so to speak) is what allows ideas to pop through. You know how you get really good ideas in the shower or in bed in that half-sleep state? It's because you're not forcing your creativity. Down time is a good goal.
