Arting

I talk about a lot of craft/art in Just One Thing. Yes, even pottery...before I ever took a class. Most of my character's arting (yes, I claim that as a word) has to do with weaving. My sister-in-law had a loom and I made a couple rugs on it. I will confess, I loved the rhythm of it. Up. Down. Up. Down. I loved that same rhythm when I was making baskets.

I learned a long time ago that I'm someone who enjoys a certain order to their life. With four kids, I can't be too rigid with it, but I do like knowing what comes next. I do like rhythm.  I think that's why basketmaking, weaving and now pottery appeals to me. They have a certain rhythm to them.  Heck, even my writing has a rhythm. Get up. Answer emails. Walk the dog. Write.

But back to Just One Thing and all the crafting and arting.  I will confess, I love that I mentioned pottery in it. It foreshadowed my passion for clay. Sometimes my writing touches on my experience...sometimes on my wishes!

I'll be at HER this weekend. If you're from the area and attend the formerly For Women Only Expo, stop in and say hi! I'm going to bring along a few of my pottery pieces!!

Book Stories: Maid in LA

I write romances. I started writing romantic comedy and then some sweet romances and finally moved into more serious dramas. Many were a cross between romance and women's fiction. I tried to coin the word Womance...it didn't catch on. LOL I settled for Romance+.

That's a lot of different types of writing. But I had this idea for a character. A maid who accidentally cleans a murder scene. And because she's good at her job...she cleans up the murder weapon. Quincy Mac doesn't want to go to jail for just cleaning good...so she sets out to solve the mystery.

I've had such a great time with Quincy. I have a friend in Hollywood. She was sweet enough to let me pepper her with questions as I wrote the series. Any times I stretch how things work there, it's on me not on her. Oh, and she not only works in the industry...she writes too. Check out her books, Dee J. Adams.

I really thought Quincy was a one-off. My only cozy mystery series. But my agent asked if I'd consider writing another series. And I started to mull and...well, I don't want to even talk about the title because I really want to save it for a reveal next year. But suffice to say, I have once again dipped my toes into cozy mysteries. I've finished the first two books and hope to have more info for you soon! In the meantime, my first four Maid in LA books are in a collection...and it's on sale. And the new (final?) book is out as well! I hope you'll check them all out! When you're done, if you have a sec, please go leave a review!

Speaking of cleaning...that's part of my agenda today. I don't mind vacuuming or laundry, but man, I hate dusting! I think there's a chance that all the books in my house might be a part of that...dusting them is a pain. LOL How about you? Is there a chore you just can't like?
Don't forget to check out...
The Maid in LA Collection is on sale for $1.99.
When you're done, pick up book #5, Polished Off. Quincy Mac's cleaning up Hollywood...one murder at a time!

Fangirl Moments

Fangirl Moments...

I'll confess, I've always been a reader and for me, writers have always been rock stars. So my fangirl moments have been writer oriented.  In the last two Trippin' with Holly and Susan I spoke about a few of my fangirl moments.  But these aren't all my moments.  There are so many.  Coffee at a conference with a new writing friend.  Helping on a committee with a bunch of writers I admire.

At my first writing conference I ended up sharing a hotel room with three other women. They were wonderful. Before the big party, I was alone in the room getting ready and singing.  Singing uh, loudly. I'd known the women in the next room over from online and they were even more delightful in person.  I saw them that night and Pam asked, "What was the music you were listening to?"  I had to confess, it was me.  She told me I had a lovely voice.  Truth is, I must have a lovely voice or else she wouldn't have mentioned it. But I'm pretty sure it's a lovely voice only through walls.  LOL  That conference changed our relationship.  Pam's become such a good friend...even though I've only seen her in person a handful of times.

I think that's what's so amazing about being a writer fangirl...those fangirl moments give way to friendship. And those friendships can be deep and abiding.

Check out my fangirl moments in these Trippin' videos.  And if you've had your own moment, I'd love to hear about it!
