March Newsletter

A reader, Cindy Carlson, wrote this song for Briar Hill Road.
There's a clip in the video...you can listen to the whole song here.

Stories

Every story I write comes from my heart, but some are closer to it than others.  Briar Hill Road is that.  We lost my mother-on-law to breast cancer, and all these years later, our family still feels her loss.  I used to joke with my husband that if he divorced me, he could keep the house and kids and I'd keep his mom.  LOL I wrote Briar Hill Road as an homage to one of the finest women I've ever known.  Yes, it's fiction, but it's fiction with a layer of truth in it...my truth.  I hope you'll check it out!

Lucky people are born into their families,
but some have to find them.

Hayden MacNulty found her "real" family a few houses down Briar Hill Road while trick-or-treating when she was eight. She fell a little in love with twelve-year-old Brian Conway that very night. Time and tragedy tests that love, but over the years Brian and Hayden discover that real love can weather the harshest storms and still bloom beautiful and strong. Hayden and Brian's story is at its heart a love story about family...about forgiveness…about acceptance...about life on Briar Hill Road.

I'm still blogging about going back to school...

Yes, I'm now in Ceramics II and still loving the experience.  I've been writing about My Novel Freshman Experience on my blog.  I love talking about how art and writing overlap.  Not just writing. Art impacts, enhances and alters our perspectives on life.  I've also added a new reoccurring series of blogs posts called Book Stories.  I talk about how different books came about, what inspired and helped craft them.  You can check out and follow my blog at Holly Jacobs'—Hollyworld.

Yes, that's me.

Erie had a record snowfall in December.  In addition to word-ing and clay-ing, I spent a lot of time shoveling. Erie is winning the Golden Snow Globe with 167 inches of snow this year.  Geesh!

I've got a busy few months coming up...

I'm heading to Philadelphia and Syracuse to speak, and I'm visiting a few more bookclubs around Erie.  Plus I'll be spending a lot of time this summer at our Cottage.  We've spend the last year renovating.  It's really coming together.  Check out my tour of the downstairs here.

There're are more books, more school adventures, more...well, glee coming up!  As always thanks for all your support!  I hope you'll check out Briar Hill Road.

A (Hopefully) Handy Holly Jacobs' Book List

I've written a bunch of books since I started writing.  I'll confess, I sometimes still get that pinch-me feeling when I really think about it. They've sold in over 25 countries to date.  I've been fortunate enough to have readers who've followed me from my comedies, to my sweet romances, to my more serious family dramas...and now to my women's fiction/romances.  Someone recently asked again for a booklist.  I've done them before, but thought I'd do another one for here!  I'm lucky that so many of my older books are now available as eBooks.  I've also made note of the ones that are available as audio books!  I've broken them into types.

~~~~~~~~~~
 My most recent stories have been women's fiction/romances.  To be honest, I think of them more as a woman's journey...a journey that includes romance.  I love looking at a story from a very heroine-centric point of view.
My newest release is: Carry Her Heart (32 Five Star Review out of 33 reviews so far!)  (Audio Book) It will be available in Walmart on June 26th!  Please give me a shout if you spot it!
Just One Thing  (Audio Book)
And watch in November for These Three Words!!
~~~~~~~~~~

Family dramas...I'd only done comedies and sweet romances, when Harlequin started a new line, Everlasting Love.  The books were supposed to look at romance as a lifelong affair.  Only one of the books I wrote for them came out before the line folded and they moved my stories to SuperRomance.  I went on to write more books for that line!  I think all of them have glimpses of my humor, but they're certainly more serious stories.

Her Second Chance Family (out August 1)
Same Time Next Summer
The House on Briar Hill Road

Award Winning Valley Ridge Series:
1. You Are Invited: A Valley Ridge Wedding
2. April Showers: A Valley Ridge Wedding (Audio Book)
3. A Walk Down the Aisle: A Valley Ridge Wedding

Award Winning Whedon, PA series

~~~~~~~~~
Comedic Mysteries...I had an idea for a character for a very long time.  Quincy Mac.  She went to LA to be an actress and ended up owning a cleaning service.  She's a mother of three teens and her life is busy and hectic...but chaos becomes her new normal when she accidentally cleans a murder scene and has to figure out whodunnit before she goes to jail for a crime she only cleaned!
1. Steamed
2. Dusted
3. Spruced Up
4. Swept Up
Or buy all four in one bundle...Maid in LA Mysteries.
~~~~~~~~~~

Sweet Romances...I sold my first romantic comedy in 2000 to Harlequin Duets.  Three months later, Silhouette Romance called and bought the first of my Perry Square books.  I've been writing sweet romances ever since!

Christmas in Cupid Falls (Audio Book)

Everything But—where every Hungarian knows that words have power—Series:
1. Everything But a Groom (named one of Booklist's Top 10 Romances of '08)
2. Everything But a Bride
3. Everything But a Wedding
4. Everything But a Christmas Eve
5. Everything But a Mother
6. Everything But a Dog

WLVH Radio—where love is more than just a song—Series:
1. Pickup Lines
2. Lovehandles
3. Night Calls
4. Laugh Lines

Holly Jacobs' Award Winning American Dads Series
Perry Square Series:
Book #2. A Day Late and a Bride Short...out later this year
Book #4. Be My Baby
Book #6. Once Upon a Prince...out later this year
Book #8. Here With Me

~~~~~~~~~
Romantic Comedies...This is where I got my start in novels.  I sold my first rom/coms to Kensington's Precious Gems line, and then to Harlequin's Duets.  After both of those lines folded, I went on to sell to Harlequin Flipside and then Signature Select.
Bosom Buddies
Cinderella Wore Tennis Shoes
Ready, Willing and...Abel? & Raising Cain
Hung Up on You
Found and Lost
Confessions of a Party Crasher
The Hundred-Year Itch
Wedding Mishaps:
How to Catch a Groom
How to Hunt a Husband
~~~~~~~~~~

Finally, I got my start with short stories/novellas.  When I first whispered the words, 'I want to write,' I started with shorts.  I've been going back to them recently.  For me, they're simply fun to write.  I love taking just a quick snapshot of a couple's relationship.

Dashing Through the Mall (novella, Deck the Halls)

WVLH Series and Everything But...series short stories:
1. Nothing But Love
2. Nothing But Heart
3. Nothing But Luck

Watch later this summer for a new short story series, starting with Labor Day!

~~~~~~~~~~
I hope this helps you find some new books.  It might look as if I've written all over the place, but really, I think all my stories from the lightest, frothy stories (a reviewer used that term once and I loved it) to my more serious tearjerkers all share a sense of heart and joy.  At least that's what I strive for.
Carry Her Heart
It's been an exciting two days since Carry Her Heart's release!  It's on Amazon's bestseller's lists, and I'm on the contemporary romance Most Popular Author's list!!
Today, it's mentioned in USAToday, in their Happily Ever After column!!  The first reviews are rolling in:
"An Unforgettable Story Of Unconditional Love"~Fresh Fiction
"Carry Her Heart is an emotional, slow burn, friends to lovers romance." ~Harlequin Junkie
"It will be a long time coming before I forget CARRY HER HEART a very remarkable and wonderful story." ~Fresh Fiction
"Oh, how I adored this book!"  ~Good Reads Reviewer
"This book is on my short list of best book I've read this year." ~Goodreads Reviewer
"...a beautiful love story." ~Amazon Reviewer
"This book is not your traditional romance, it spans several years and will take you through the gamut of emotional ups and downs and leave you with only good feelings. Warning, you will want to keep the tissues close on this one." ~Amazon Reviewer
I just want to thank everyone who's read and reviewed it...thank you!  For a while I was calling Carry Her Heart and Just One Thing, women's fiction/romances.  But I've rethought it.  All these new books are really about a woman's journey...a journey that includes romance.  That's a long description.  Let's just say, I hope you try them and think no matter how you peg the genre that they're good stories!
Holly Jacobs’ Summer Newsletter(I’ve been having issues with pictures coming through for some of you, so if they don’t show up in your newsletter, you can see the newsletter online.)
Hi, everyone!  Hope you’re enjoying warmer weather!  For a long time, I wasn’t sure if winter would ever give way to spring here in Erie, and now it’s almost summer!
There’s a lot going on here.  We’re working in the garden.  This year’s experiment?  PawPaw Trees and asparagus from seeds rather than roots!
I’m so excited that my first Women’s Fiction is out!  Don’t worry, there’s romance in it, but as I wrote it, I thought of it as more the heroine’s journey.  I wrote an article for Romance Writers’ Report in April called Sunday Books.  It talked about writing books of the heart.  Just One Thing was definitely that.  I didn’t write it with a publisher in mind.  I wrote it strictly for me—for the sheer joy of telling the story that had been begging me to be told.  I hope that joy shows in the story.  And since I try to keep you all informed…this one’s not a comedy.  It’s probably the most emotional story I’ve ever told.
Just One Thing
Montlake Books, 6/14
“Sometimes, you find yourself inadvertently in the dark. But I’d discovered that if you stopped fighting against it and just stood still, sometimes something marvelous comes along.”
Artist Lexie McCain spends her days literally weaving the story of her life into a gorgeous tapestry. But on Monday nights, she walks to the Corner Bar, drinks a Killian’s, and answers the same question every week from Sam the bartender: “One thing?” She starts with her name, then her cottage, slowly moving on to the devastating tragedies that tore her life apart.
Sam Corner’s smile doesn’t seem to hide any pain. One night, Lexie turns the tables on him, asking Sam, “One thing?” To her surprise, Sam reveals his own tragic history. Together, Lexie and Sam learn that, with good beer and a trusted friend, sharing just “one thing” might lead to the one thing they both thought was lost forever: love.
From award-winning author Holly Jacobs comes the story of heartache, hope, and the power of sharing just one thing.
Reviews:
"Just One Thing is an emotionally compelling page-turner.  I could not put it down." ~JoAnn Ross, NY Times Bestselling Author
"This is Holly's breakout piece, a masterful tale as deftly woven as the tapestry that forms a central part of the story. Perfect book for a bookckub book." ~Susan Gable, Award Winning Author
"JUST ONE THING is a different kind of book from award-winning author Holly Jacobs. This book is a little more cathartic than her usual feel good writing and touches your very soul in a deep heart-wrenching way. Characters Lexie and Sam are hurting and struggling to endure their pain. With each other’s help, they may determine that just one thing is the answer. Be prepared to read JUST ONE THING in one sitting and keep the tissues handy because you will be smiling through your tears. Kudos, Holly Jacobs, for this wonderful novel and for always keeping your readers entertained and wanting more." Donna Zapf, Single Title Romance Reviews—5 Stars
“This poignant story about new discoveries, hope, and love is truly unforgettable. Readers will find themselves connecting with the characters’ feelings right away. This novel is a perfect fit to share with a book club since it’s guaranteed to stir emotions.” —RT Book Reviews
It’s also available as an audio book at Audible.com or as a MP3 DVD at Amazon
LOVE IS A MYSTERY
My other exciting news for June is Steamed: A Maid in LA Mystery #1 is part of a new box set, Love is a Mystery.  Even if you’ve already bought Steamed (and if you did, thank you!) you can enjoy the other five books in the set.  Yes, that’s six books in one box set…for only 99¢.
Also, available for the first time as eBooks are some of my oldest published books.  I’m labeling them Holly Jacobs Classic Romances so they’re easy to spot.  These were originally published by Kensington Precious Gems.  I’ve gone back to my working titles for the eBook editions, but in case you’re checking your shelves, they were originally, Side By Side and Baby, It’s You.  (This Old Heart is keeping it’s title and will be going up soon!)
Finally, in case you missed it, my Maid in LA Mystery series is complete…well, complete for now.  I gave the series an ending, but I left it open for future books, which is good since I’ve already had readers asking for more!  I can’t tell you how much that means to a writer.  I loved working with Quincy and her gang.  It’s gratifying to know, you all enjoyed them as well!
1. Steamed Amazon B&N
2. Dusted
I hope you have a fantastic summer! I’ll be back in the fall with my next new book—the first book in a new series—Christmas in Cupid Falls!  Yes, another Christmas book!  With a name like Holly, how could I not love writing holiday books??!!
Holly
