Now, here's the thing...I don't have rhythm. If there's an opposite of rhythm, that's what I have. But maybe the fact I don't have physical rhythm makes me appreciate the rhythm that surrounds us. This time last year, I was in the thick of my leg issues. I was recovering from that first surgery and while I was walking, most of my concentration was on recovery not on appreciating the rhythms. I was out of sync. But this year, I'm back! Tallulah and I have been walking at camp a lot this year. We do two or three miles every morning. And I have a chance to really appreciate the rhythm of Pennsylvania's seasons again. It was a lovely summer. Oh, there are bugs, but there's just so much life going on. Now, fall is setting in and I'm enjoying every second of it. |
My life has had rhythms as well. Family, writing and...well, family and writing are the two biggest parts of my life. A few years ago, I added pottery to my my rhythm. Pottery and writing have a lot in common. They both are activities that share a belief in possibility. Whether I'm looking at a blank page or a piece of clay, I'm looking for the potential in both. Come to think of it, raising kids has that same sense of possibility in it. (I'm thankful to say my kids have all surpassed anything I could have ever dreamed for them.)
When I ran out of classes at Mercyhurst University, Himself built me a studio. The barn went up last fall and the studio was up and running this spring. So many of you have asked about buying some of my pottery. I've started a small Etsy shop, HollysWoods Studio. Obviously, I've been on a bit of a gnome-palooza lately! I wanted something small enough that I could offer them at a reasonable price. I'll be updating products as I go on. (If there's something specific you're looking for, give me a holler.) I'm not sure how Etsy will work out. So basically, this is a big experiment (which is my way of saying, I'll do my best, but please be patient). I've added an autographed copy of Just One Thing. If this works, I'll add other physical books there as well.
That's it. I hope you enjoy check out the studio!
Here's a glimpse of what the studio looks like finished.
